The Forum is likely the most important adidas shoe you've never heard of. The brainchild of French designer Jacques Chassaing. The Forum was the result of his own deep research into what injuries basketball teams struggled with; Chassaing wanted to know which particular issues were important to all players across the board. Through the Forum's design he created the Criss-Cross Ankle System – inspired by the strapping which team physios applied to injured players – in order to protect against ankle injury.When it launched in 1984, the $100 Forum stole headlines as the most expensive basketball shoe in the world – indeed all that tech didn't come cheap. If that wasn't enough to cement it's status, a young Michael Jordan wore them whilst playing in trials for the '84 Olympics.
