So what happens when two sportswear giants get together to work on shoes? Before collaborations were a marketing tactic, partnerships were an opportunity to push the envelope on performance. Between 1997-2005, Salomon was owned by German footwear icon adidas — this mutual relationship allowed a unique opportunity for cooperation.Working together they developed plenty, including a shoe named the GCS Pro. This model was designed for athletes seeking stability, comfort and shock absorption on the trail. Now, Salomon pays tribute by bringing back the GCS Pro with a few modern tweaks, relaunching as the ACS Pro Advanced.Immediately you’ll clock that HR Geiger-esque ribcage made to aid ventilation. This particular detail is the most obvious evidence of the working partnership, many will recognise the resemblance to the side panels on the adidas Climacool from the same time period.The toe box features a tough, rubberised finish that’ll protect you over even the most demanding terrain. Further tech comes via SensifitTM which wraps your foot & secures against metal reinforcements for the patented Quicklace system — these are built TOUGH.The main deviation from the original GCS Pro comes from an updated sole using ACS tech. ACS is a pretty common acronym that pops up in modern-day Salomon vernacular, referring to the Agile Chassis System housed within the sole helping to perfect the balance of cushioning and stability. Much like the original GCS Pro, ACS was developed with adi and lives on to this day, showing just how effective it turned out to be.Elsewhere you get two heel pull tabs per shoe(!) because more is almost always better. The colourway remains true to the original, its steely tones with strong pop colour are undeniably early-2000s.
